Officials

Officials are an important part of Omega Aquatics and hosting great meets! All of our officials are volunteers!

 

USA Swimming has created online courses that volunteers can do on their own time schedule instead of having to wait until a stroke and turn clinic is offered.

 

There are two parts to the training:


  • Foundations of Officiating
  • The Stroke and Turn Certification Course.

Both are on the USA Swimming website.


Once you create and log into your USA Swimming account, you can use this link to find the courses USASwimming Courses. When these two courses are completed, you can begin your on deck training. The uniform for officials, including trainees, while working on deck is a collared white polo shirt, black shorts, skirt, or pants, black closed toe shoes, and black socks.

Here are instructions for those who are interested in becoming an official.

 

  1. Create an account on USA Swimming if you don't already have one as a parent. 
  2. (Go to LOGIN/REGISTER button)
  3. Once in the site go to EDUCATION tab
  4. Click under Course Catalog
  5. Click the Officials Circle at the top.
  6. Then scroll down and find the Foundations of Officiating course and take it. After completing that course take the Stroke and Turn Certification Course. Both are required.

Once you are ready to begin training, register as an APPRENTICE OFFICIAL. This is free. Apprentice Official registration allows you to go on deck and begin your on-deck training. You have 60 days to complete the Background Check (BGC), Athlete Protection Training (APT), and Concussion Protocol Training (CPT). At day 60, you MUST become a Non-Athlete member which requires BGC, APT, and CPT to be completed before stepping back on deck.
